I wonder....when people feel they are being cut off from the foods that they "know" and "love"....because they find out the "un"-health of the food that they are eating....is it the "struggle" to letting go the same as mourning a loved one? If so, is it possible to celebrate the times you shared with your favourite food....take some time to mourn the "loss" and then move on? Maybe try a healthier version or recipe (modify), or another food? I know it won't be the same, but that's what makes the memories so good right?...Just a thought....
