BE in the pattern of seeing solutions

 Good morning!

Woohoo! We finished the half way point in grade 8 math curriculum this morning. Now for review and test 🙂
And I want to share my absolute love for the Discipline of Mathematics....in particular the observation of patterns. Today, as we worked through the questions, we also explored the understanding of why observing patterns serves an everyday purpose...that most equations can have some of the variables swapped out, but applying the pattern to solving the equation will result in finding the solution for the "problem". That what systems are....you plug in the variables into the "system" and it "should" work out for you.
And....in life, we are constantly plugging in different variables into the patterns we have created for ourselves, and finding the solution....LOL, sometimes the same thing keeps happening to us over and over again and we wonder "why??"....but perhaps it's because we only changed a few of the variables, but plugged them in to the same "equation" of "finding" the solution.
If what you want is a different solution to your "problem" or a different result....sometimes it actually means changing the "equation" you are plugging your variables into.....the pattern by which you observe the variables....the system has to be different.
This quote is often used...."We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them." Albert Einstein....
....however, it doesn't demonstrate that it is the same thinking BEHIND the observation of the problem that ALSO produces the results we experience. Your problem sits more in the thinking than the situation.
That's why this quote ...."If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change." Wayne Dyer ..... is actually speaking to the KEY to the "finding" of the solution. It's how you apply your mind to the experience that makes the difference. And how you choose to "pattern" your mind will change your experiences.
Both quotes actually don't help you to "find" the "solution" to the "problem".....they are just pointing out the difference in the patterns that we choose to see with.
For ONE way of thinking results in SEEING the problem.....and the other way RESULTS in seeing the solution. The variables can remain the same, but the "equation" and pattern of application changes and you have a whole different situation in front of you.
What pattern have you applied to the things you do from day to day? Are they serving you? If yes, keep expanding in those areas. If not....Do you want them to change? And if you want them to change, have you consider adjusting your mindset first...
Anyways, I really enjoy math 😉

Ponderings on how I found my way back time and time again

This morning on my commute there was a person...walking towards my vehicle like oncoming traffic...down the lane I was in. Arms slightly held out to the sides and hands filled with bags....I remembered that feeling and said in my head..."Oh my dear friend...but I see you and value your life." Still, I can taste that sorrow of what it reminded me of...too many times, and in different ways... heart break, dismissal, rejection, and betrayal...and I am moved with compassion for my fellow human...to be able to find the peace of mind and heart through this time of grief and trial...I often wonder how I found my way back time and time again...

...to recognize that the pain others experience in their lives can possibly weigh much greater and heavier than my own...and that I keep myself in good company...(but a few trustworthy souls that I choose to journey wide open with...) . I am compelled in this life to...in some way help my fellow person on their journey and to be someone's "good company " as well ❤ #oneanotherlove

Are we allowing our limits to influence our growth and choices?

 Good morning! LOL HA!

Well, I was trying to head to bed actually, but I was reminded about something as my head was throbbing and I just had to share....
Choice or Limit?
Years ago I was cleaning up some debris, and a worn and weathered plastic rope was stuck...so I wrapped it around my hand a bit and gave it a yank...it came loose and I got it free, but in the process, the fibres from the plastic robe got stuck in my hands...about a dozen I had to try and take out. I got most of it out, but there were still some left in my hands...causing swelling, inflammation, infection, and pain. At this point, the wounds were pretty much healed over...the skin was smooth, but the pain and sporadic swelling and redness kept coming up. So I decided I would cut them open and start digging out the rest that I missed. I was asked why would I do that?? And I answered, because what I don't want in there is still there...I don't want to live with it, I want it out. I still have one scar that stands out and I haven't disturbed it or messed with it because it's not painful or swelling and it's not bothering me. It may just be a scar, but I think there is still a piece in there, because it is quite hard when I touch it.
There are a lot of points in our lives where we have experienced the pain of disappointment and failed expectations of the outcomes we desired....and sometimes a seed of bitterness takes root in there, in our hearts and minds, and we allow that thing to fester and pus....but because we chose to put it on the back burner or a significant amount of time has passed and it "should" be behind us, we leave it. And when something in conversation or life comes along, that "pain" is triggered and our response (reaction) is to go through the emotions all over again or even better yet, try to ignore it and hope that it scabs over and we can move on from there. Well, we don't. Every time we get "triggered", defensive, carry a hard view point about that thing or subject, we are going through it all, all over again and wondering why we can't get passed it. That, my friends, is a limit. Or at least it was for me. A piece of plastic that your body will never break down or metabolize and that will constantly pick at you for the rest of your days. Hoping it scabs over thick enough still doesn't get rid of the pain and irritation. I didn't want that to keep coming back at me and taking over my thoughts and behaviours....interrupting my peace...and not allowing me to be adaptable or compassionate in my life. That goes for my present moment headache....maybe not enough hydration in my day on top of being exposed to irritants that were picking at me and giving me the headache in the first place....there is only so much we can choose to tolerate before our threshold is breached.
Where are you making choices that allow you to move forward and be adaptable to your growing and blooming life and where are you permitting limits to be your "master" in the moment?
Anyways, just a thought as I get up to get more water and hopefully some more rest as this day is set to continue to unfold.

EVERYTHING can get better! Choose your better

"Have a better day".... LOL what??? This is what I heard from the service agent on the phone after my car buckled and decided to slide through and intersection one winter morning (edit: a FEW years ago)...

When the guy came to tow the vehicle, he pointed out that this was not because I slid on ice, but because something in the front wheel well broke as I was going through the intersection and that I am super lucky it happened where it did. If I had been going at any speed (I was at a 4 way stop turning left), it would have been a whole lot worse. And he shivered as he stood there imagining it.
Some of my thoughts were, "NOW what did I do wrong...?", "Great! Now he's going to think I am a reckless driver.", "LOL who is really going to believe me that I went from a dead stop into crashing into the curb just a few metres away?"....but then the funniest thing happened....when that lady said those words, my thought was "Better WHAT??" LOL and to this day, it's the same....
Guess what?? EVERYTHING can get better! Better complaining....better criticism....better negative self-talk....in that moment, I was experiencing a whole MIX of better "everything" 😄😄 I started to have more gratitude, and a day off from work....it did work out to being a "better" day 😉 And when I finally drove my fixed car along that same route weeks later, I was gripped with the shiver that the tow truck guy had...that there was a bridge around the next corner that I was spared from going over. I am glad I didn't beat myself up too bad about the whole thing. The questions came and they passed just as quick, but they were there. That "language" still "creeped" in. And so did my gratitude. ❤
So back to Today, where my son used the term better "generally" and it brought back all these memories...and I turned to him and said, "You might want to be more specific in that prayer for 'better'....better WHAT??" And we could ALL be more specific in what we say we want better of, couldn't we....truly taking the few extra seconds to specify....better health, better attitude, better (greater) income, better headspace, better mindset, better perspective of those that are around me...better "good" in our lives...
There is a word that covers that...that I have been referring to for over 15 years now....Kaizen. It's a Japanese word that refers to any improvement...but in particular, daily, consistent, continuous improvement. And it reminds me to choose for "better good" in my life.
This is why it's important to decide which direction you choose to improve in....we are all, in some way or form, contributing to the "mastery" of something in our lives. Each day as we practice what it is that we are doing, we are getting "better and better", to the point where we don't have to think about it, it's just second nature. Each day, we get to choose what increase to a behaviour, action, or skill we want to get "better" at. Today I choose...to consider better health, better stoicism, better rest, better focus, better movement, better hygiene, ....better than what? Better than the day before. And better than who? Nope...not necessarily a who...just better "for" me each and every day...
Alrighty, time to get better at some math 😉
